WilmerHale Partner Mindy Sooter was recognized as a Top Litigator by Law Week Colorado, which identifies the leading trial attorneys in Colorado who had the biggest wins and saves in the courtroom during the past year, according to the publication. Honorees were nominated by the local legal community and accomplished great things in 2023.
Sooter, who is the partner-in-charge of the firm's Denver office, has a successful track record in high-stakes intellectual property litigation, earning the trust of major clients, such as those in the medical device, telecommunications and technology sectors, as well as emerging businesses.
The profile in Law Week Colorado highlights Sooter’s journey from pursuing a master’s degree in engineering to her now highly successful legal career. Sooter shares that she often leverages her engineering background in the courtroom when explaining complex technologies to a jury. The profile states “The technologies Sooter has explained to juries reads a lot like the course list for her engineering degree.”
“To me, the most fun part is teaching the jury what the patent is, how the technology works and either how they’re the same or different, depending on which side I’m representing,” said Sooter. “And when I’m representing a defendant, for example, who doesn’t infringe, it’s important to tell the story why.”
Sooter’s profile also dives into some of her largest and most successful intellectual property work in the past year for household name clients, including Intel and Comcast.
In addition to serving private clients, Sooter has a deep pro bono practice, dedicating herself to several immigration-related pro bono cases. Sooter works with many clients at various stages in the asylum process.
“We’re really trying to do the right thing and help somebody who’s unable to really enforce their own rights,” said Sooter.
