Law Week Colorado has named Partner John Walsh a 2023 Lawyer of the Year in recognition of his impeccable track record and dedication to public service. Walsh, who co-chairs WilmerHale’s White Collar Defense and Investigations Practice, was one of three attorneys selected for this exclusive honor. The publication previously recognized him as both Colorado’s Best Litigator and Best Overall Litigator.
The feature profile accompanying the recognition documents Walsh’s more than 35-year career, spanning his decades of federal government and private practice experience. A former federal prosecutor and US Attorney for the District of Colorado, Walsh is an accomplished litigator who routinely represents clients in high-profile, high-stakes civil and criminal matters. Among his notable cases, the profile notes that Walsh co-lead the WilmerHale team that achieved a landmark, precedent-setting trial victory for client DaVita, Inc in the first-ever trial of a criminal labor market allocation case brought by the US Department of Justice. The feature also covers Walsh’s role as a thought-leader in the legal community, noting that he co-founded WilmerHale’s nationally-recognized podcast, “In the Public Interest,” in 2020.
In addition to his accomplishments in court, the publication highlights Walsh’s continued commitment to public service. A fluent Spanish-speaker, Walsh co-chairs the American Bar Association’s International Law Section’s Mexico Committee and is chair of Denver dual language school Escuela de Guadalupe’s board of trustees. At WilmerHale, he has been the moving force behind the integration of the Latin American practice across the firm’s departments and practice groups.
Commenting on his legal career thus far, Walsh said, “I think that combination of public service, government service and private practice has created, for me personally, just so many opportunities to give back for individual clients and also for the United States and for the community.”
