Emily Whelan Named a Woman Worth Watching in Leadership by Diversity Journal

Recognition

Emily Whelan, a Boston-based partner, was recognized as a Woman Worth Watching in Leadership in the 21st edition of Diversity Journal’s annual list, which honors the accomplishments of professionals with the hope of inspiring the next generation of women leaders.

Profiles in Diversity Journal is a quarterly magazine that spotlights, promotes and supports individuals in underrepresented groups for their contributions to their respective fields. As chair of the firm’s Intellectual Property Department, Whelan was honored for her leadership and management skills in addition to her experience with patent strategy in pre-litigation investigation and litigation, Patent Office post-grant proceedings including inter partes review and reexamination, analysis of the competitive landscape and IP due diligence, as well as obtaining patent protection and portfolio management.

“Although I did not know it when I begun pursuing a career in patent law, only about 20 percent of registered patent attorneys are women,” Whelan notes in her profile. “While patent law and commercial litigation are male-dominated fields, I have been lucky to have many strong women mentors and role models since the earliest days of my career in patent law and intellectual property litigation.”
