Grant Rowan's practice encompasses all aspects of IP counseling, strategic patent portfolio development and IP litigation.
Practice
Mr. Rowan's patent portfolio development practice involves the management of international portfolios of patents and applications relating to the electrical and mechanical arts, such as plasma display panels, data storage devices, computers, computer printers, electrical circuits, semiconductors, software, Internet applications and machinery. He also has extensive patent counseling experience which includes providing advice relating to commercially significant IP opportunities, IP risk assessment and risk mitigation. In addition, Mr. Rowan has handled all aspects of IP litigation including discovery, claim construction and motions practice and trial work.
Prior to beginning his legal career, Mr. Rowan gained extensive technical experience as an electrical engineer with NASA, where he designed and simulated a high-speed data-monitoring system and designed software for a portion of the Earth Observation Satellite. His technical background also includes work as an engineering assistant with Engineering and Economics Research, Inc. and Westinghouse Electric Corporation, both in Maryland.
Professional Activities
Mr. Rowan is the Chair of the Communications Committee of the Bar Association of D.C. and is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association.
