WilmerHale Partner Ronald Machen is one of 100 Honorees named a 2015 Outstanding African American Leader by African Leadership Magazine. This annual list honors some of the world’s most powerful and inspirational African American leaders. The magazine recognizes leaders who display innovation, entrepreneurship and development in their respective professions. Along with Machen, other honorees include Congressman John Lewis, civil rights activist Julian Bond, Serena Williams, four-star General William E. “Kip” Ward and the President of Namibia, Dr. Hage Geingob.
Machen is one of the nation’s leading trial and white-collar defense attorneys, specializing in government enforcement actions, corporate and congressional investigations, and complex civil litigation. He works to help clients navigate high-stakes crises that garner the attention of multiple regulators, enforcement authorities, Congress and private litigators.
The magazine highlighted Machen’s high-profile corruption cases as former US Attorney for the District of Columbia, involving Jesse Jackson Jr. and numerous elected officials in the District of Columbia.
Machen is the 2013 recipient of the Equal Justice Award from the National Bar Association. In 2012, he was recognized as a “Visionary” by Legal Times for helping to advance the practice of law during his tenure as US Attorney. In 2008, the National Law Journal named him one of the “50 Most Promising Litigators in America Under the Age of 45,” and also recognized him as one of the “50 Most Influential Minority Lawyers in America.” In 2006, the Washingtonian magazine identified him as one of DC’s “Top 40 Lawyers Under 40.”
Machen and the other honorees were recognized at the 7th African Leadership Awards Gala & Reception in Washington, DC on September 18 at the Four Seasons Hotel.
