Amanda Albert, a leading employee benefits lawyer who focuses on ERISA, federal income tax and other laws and regulations related to employee benefit plans and executive compensation, has joined WilmerHale as a partner in its Tax Practice. Albert’s arrival represents further growth in the firm’s Corporate Practice and quickly follows the addition of Judith Hasko as co-chair of the firm’s Life Sciences practice group.
“Our Tax Practice is a vital element of a number of our practice areas across the firm,” said WilmerHale Managing Partner Anjan Sahni. “We are very excited to welcome Amanda to the firm.”
“WilmerHale’s Tax Practice solves some of the most challenging and mission-critical tax and employee benefit issues for our Corporate clients, including in connection with M&A and other corporate transactions” said Mick Bain, Chair of the firm’s Transactional Department. “Our Tax Practice also advises clients of our Investment Management Group and Securities Department on ERISA compliance when dealing with assets of employee benefit plans. The Tax Practice is consulted by our Litigation Department in connection with ERISA litigation matters and helps Transactional clients in the ERISA aspects of equity offerings and debt and credit agreements.”
Albert focuses her practice on advising both public and private clients on employee benefits, employment and executive compensation matters. She counsels clients on the full range of related tax, ERISA, governance, securities and regulatory issues.
Albert’s work encompasses handling both national and international mergers and acquisitions, spin-offs, initial public offerings, reorganizations and restructurings, in addition to private equity and various funding and financing agreements. Her clients include buyers, sellers, banks, underwriters, partnerships, private equity and venture capital firms, as well as boards of directors and compensation committees.
“The implementation and administration of employee benefit plans, including with respect to ERISA, federal income tax and other regulations, is a crucial and complex area for many WilmerHale clients,” said Kim Wethly, chair of the firm’s Tax Practice. “We are impressed by the breadth of Amanda’s substantive knowledge, ranging across ERISA, employee benefits and labor and employment, as well as her energy, confidence and presence. I am delighted that Amanda is joining the WilmerHale team.”
Albert received a BA, cum laude, Honors in Political Science from Drew University College of Liberal Arts in 2004, and her JD from Hofstra University School of Law in 2007.
Albert will be resident in WilmerHale’s New York office.
Prior to joining the firm, Albert was a partner at another international law firm where she focused on compensation matters.
