Stephen Gillespie Joins WilmerHale, Bolstering the Firm’s West Coast Corporate Practice

WilmerHale is pleased to announce that Stephen D. Gillespie, an accomplished corporate attorney with a focus on technology licensing and collaboration transactions, has joined the firm as a partner in our San Francisco office.

Mr. Gillespie brings more than 25 years’ experience in counseling technology companies on a wide range of strategic partnering and technology transactions, including mergers and acquisitions and complex licensing arrangements. He works with clients throughout the corporate life cycle, from startups obtaining their first university in-license to large established entities engaging in transactions for their commercial offerings.

Mr. Gillespie regularly represents clients across the full spectrum of technologies, including hardware, software, open source, SaaS/Cloud services, security, autonomous transportation, blockchain and other technologies.

“Stephen brings a wealth of experience and is someone clients rely upon to represent them in structuring and negotiating complex and high-stakes technology transactions,” said Susan Murley, a partner in the firm’s corporate practice and co-managing partner of WilmerHale. “His addition to the team will further the growth of our corporate practice on the West Coast, which is core to firm’s strategic plan.”

Mr. Gillespie is regularly recognized by various media outlets and organizations for his contributions to the legal community, including Legal 500, The Best Lawyers in America and IAM Patent 1000.

Mr. Gillespie earned a PhD in Jurisprudence and Social Policy and JD from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law. He also holds a BA in Rhetoric from the University of California, Berkeley. He joins WilmerHale from a global law firm in San Francisco.
