The National Mentoring Partnership has named WilmerHale to its 2022 National Corporate Mentoring Honor Roll in recognition of the firm’s continued commitment to mentoring today’s youth. Launched by former First Lady Michelle Obama in 2011, the honor roll highlights companies that have demonstrated a vested interest in connecting youth to social and economic opportunities through mentorship initiatives.
WilmerHale engages youth in a wide range of activities across our offices, focusing on nonprofits that serve our most disenfranchised youth. The firm promotes the academic and personal development of diverse youth through weekly enrichment programs and select career preparation workshops in Boston, Dayton, Denver, Palo Alto and Washington DC.
In Boston, we conduct college essay and career training workshops with students from Cathedral High School and Hyde Square Task Force. The office also hires eight Boston-area high school students as interns each year as part of the Summer Leadership Institute. In addition, promising young adults gain technical and corporate experience in internships sponsored by Year Up across the firm’s US offices. In Boston and Palo Alto, employees teach middle school students about the legal profession by ushering them through mock trial programs sponsored by Discovering Justice. In Washington DC, volunteers meet with students from Maya Angelou Public Charter Schools at bi-weekly sessions throughout the year.
This work is in addition to efforts at all of the firm’s offices to support local economic, social and environmental causes. The firm was previously named to the list in 2019.
