Investment-Management Industry Leader Phillip S. Gillespie Joins WilmerHale

WilmerHale is pleased to announce that Phillip S. Gillespie has joined the firm. He will be a senior counsel in the Boston office and a member of the firm’s market-leading Securities Department and Investment Management Practice.

Mr. Gillespie has three decades of experience providing wide-ranging advice to asset management firms and investment funds, and in dealing with US and foreign regulators.   

Most recently, Mr. Gillespie was executive vice president and general counsel for State Street Global Advisors, the asset management division of State Street Corporation.

Prior to that he held senior legal-department roles at Oppenheimer Funds and Merrill Lynch Investment Managers. Earlier in his career, he was a senior counsel in the US Securities and Exchange Commission’s Office of Legal Counsel, Division of Investment Management.

Mr. Gillespie earned his law degree, magna cum laude, from Tulane University. He received his bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University. 

Mr. Gillespie is admitted to practice in Washington, and he is seeking admission by waiver into the Massachusetts Bar.
