Roger Witten, a New York-based senior counsel, was honored with the Global Investigations Review’s (GIR) 2019 Outstanding Career Award. Mr. Witten was recognized for working on landmark cases from the start of his career and playing a role in developing a new generation of top investigations lawyers.

In 1975, Mr. Witten came to the firm from his position as an Assistant Special Prosecutor on the Watergate Special Prosecution Force. During the ensuing 44 years, 33 spent as a partner in the firm’s Washington and New York offices, Mr. Witten brought to successful conclusion cases of public and historic significance. He achieved national and international prominence in various fields—major domestic and international litigation; complex internal investigations and law enforcement matters, including pioneering work on Foreign Corrupt Practices Act cases and major campaign finance reform advocacy which he did pro bono.

Mr. Witten has also entrusted with leadership responsibilities at WilmerHale. He co-chaired the firm’s litigation department from 1994 until 1999 and served on the firm’s Management Committee from 1998 through 2008. Mr. Witten developed the concept that led to the enormously successful merger in 2004 between Wilmer Cutler & Pickering and Hale and Dorr, LLC. He is especially proud to have helped create a new law firm built on the foundations of professional excellence, integrity, hard work, collegiality and public service.

Mr. Witten was also recently honored as a Lifetime Achiever at the New York Law Journal’s 2019 Professional Excellence Awards.

Mr. Witten was recognized at GIR’s annual awards ceremony on October 24 at the Four Seasons hotel in Washington DC.
