Friday, April 5, 2019 will mark 25 years since WilmerHale committed to supporting the WilmerHale Legal Services Center of Harvard Law School (LSC), and the 40th anniversary of the founding of the center. On that day, LSC will host its first-ever alumni event that will welcome students, graduates, faculty and former staff of the LSC to take part in a series of interactive roundtables followed by an awards event and reception.
Each year, the LSC assists more than 1,000 clients with civil legal issues in various areas of law, including estate planning, family law and domestic violence, federal tax, housing law, predatory lending and consumer protection, and veterans law. “WilmerHale’s commitment to and support of the Legal Services Center has been integral to our justice work,” the LSC said. The LSC has trained more than 4,000 attorneys and law students, and has provided high quality pro bono civil legal services to thousands of vulnerable residents around the greater Boston area.
In 1992, alumni of Harvard Law school at Hale and Dorr LLP contributed $2 million to the law school to purchase and renovate the current LSC building. This gift also marked the beginning of a longstanding collaboration, in which WilmerHale attorneys donate hundreds of hours every year to LSC clients and programs. Former WilmerHale lawyer and current Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey will deliver the keynote address and the award ceremony will honor two former managing partners of Hale and Dorr—Jack Cogan and John Hamilton. Additionally, retired WilmerHale Partner John Regan will be one of the featured speakers for the roundtable discussion, #Flex: Responding to Community Needs Through Partnerships.
