The US Chamber of Commerce today announced that Alejandro Mayorkas has been selected to serve as Chairman of its Cyber Leadership Council. Mayorkas' term will begin in July.

“We are pleased to welcome Ali as our Cyber Leadership Council Chair,” said Ann Beauchesne, senior vice president for National Security and Emergency Preparedness at the US Chamber. “Ali has inimitable experience in the public and private sectors and in building links between them. His perspective will help us build greater collaboration to improve our nation's cybersecurity policy.”

Mayorkas is a partner at WilmerHale and a former Deputy Secretary at the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS). He represents clients in civil litigation and internal investigations and augments WilmerHale's strengths in strategic counseling, crisis management, and national security, with a particular focus on cybersecurity. Mayorkas previously served as deputy secretary at DHS, where he managed some of the most complex and critical responsibilities of government, including preventing and responding to terrorist attacks on US soil, enforcing immigration laws, enhancing cybersecurity for both the government and private sector, facilitating lawful trade and travel, and helping communities recover from disasters.

The Cyber Leadership Council was launched in 2015 to promote the adoption of best practices and market-based solutions in cybersecurity. The Council serves as a forum for businesses to openly discuss cybersecurity policy and practices, direct Chamber advocacy and education efforts, and serve as a key voice of industry for dialogue with policymakers.
