President-elect Barack Obama Names David Ogden as Nominee for Deputy Attorney General

Earlier today, President-elect Barack Obama named Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr partner David Ogden as his nominee for Deputy Attorney General. Ogden is a partner in the firm's Regulatory and Government Affairs and Litigation/Controversy Departments and co-chair of the Government and Regulatory Litigation Practice Group.
The announcement came as a new Justice Department began to take shape, with Obama saying he would nominate a quartet of lawyers to high level positions. Deputy Attorney General is the Justice Department’s second-ranking position, and is in charge of day-to-day operations.
Prior to joining WilmerHale in 2001, Ogden was a senior official in the Justice Department during the Clinton Administration. He served as Assistant Attorney General, Civil Division from 1999 until 2001 and was Attorney General Janet Reno's Chief of Staff and Counselor from 1997 to 1998. Since Obama’s election victory, Ogden has led the transition at the Justice Department. "These individuals bring the integrity, depth of experience and tenacity that the Department of Justice demands in these uncertain times," Obama said in a written statement. "I have the fullest confidence that they will ensure that the Department of Justice once again fulfills its highest purpose: to uphold the Constitution and protect the American people."
