Partner Mark Fleming Selected as Adviser for American Law Institute Project
- 3.6.2015
WilmerHale Partner Mark C. Fleming has been chosen to serve as an adviser on a new project recently launched by The American Law Institute (ALI) titled Restatement of the Law Third, Conflict of Laws. This project will cover torts, property, contract, business organizations, family law, and other status questions. The Restatement will also cover distinctive choice-of-law issues: the nature of the choice-of-law problem, whether different state or national laws can govern different issues, and what use to make of the choice-of-law rules of other jurisdictions. Advisers on an ALI project are selected for their particular knowledge and experience of the subject or the special perspective they are able to provide. As a group, the advisers on this project constitute an intellectually and geographically diverse collection of practitioners, judges, and scholars.
Fleming is a member of WilmerHale’s Litigation/Controversy Department. His practice focuses on appellate litigation and other complex litigation matters. Fleming has argued cases before the Supreme Court of the United States, the US Courts of Appeals for the First, Third, Eighth, Ninth, District of Columbia, and Federal Circuits and the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court and Appeals Court.
ALI is the leading independent organization in the United States producing scholarly work to clarify, modernize, and improve the law. They draft, discuss, revise, and publish Restatements of the Law, model statutes, and principles of law that are enormously influential in the courts and legislatures, as well as in legal scholarship and education. The Institute's elected membership of lawyers, judges, and law professors is limited to 3,000. The total membership of more than 4,450 includes life members (those elected members who have attained more than 25 years), as well as ex officio members and honorary members.
