Hale and Dorr Client RSA Security Wins SSL Patent Infringement Trial

Hale and Dorr client, RSA Security Inc. (NASDAQ:RSAS) has prevailed at trial in a patent infringement lawsuit brought by Mr. Leon Stambler. In his suit Mr. Stambler contended that products marketed by RSA Security that use SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) version 3.0, an accepted industry standard, infringed three of his patents. On March 7, 2003, a jury in Delaware reached a unanimous verdict in favor of RSA Security and its co-defendant, VeriSign Inc., on all infringement claims.
SSL version 3.0 is the industry-standard for protecting Web communications, such as encrypting data for digital certificates. SSL is built into all major browsers and Web servers. Mr. Stambler filed his suit against RSA Security in February 2001.
