Firm Earns 100 Percent Rating in 2012 Corporate Equality Index
- 12.13.2011
WilmerHale earned a 100 percent rating in the 2012 Corporate Equality Index (CEI), an annual survey administered by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation (HRC). This is the fourth consecutive year WilmerHale has received a perfect score on the survey, which identifies the best places to work for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) equality. More than 850 private employers were rated in the 2012 CEI, 134 of which were law firms. The legal industry was the top industry for employers that rated 100 percent.
“We are thrilled with WilmerHale’s continued outstanding performance in the CEI,” said Jonathan Shapiro, former partner and co-chair of the firm’s Diversity Committee. “Achieving a perfect score for the fourth year in a row speaks to our commitment to supporting our LGBT team members at every turn. WilmerHale will always stand with those in the business and legal communities who share our fundamental values of fairness, inclusion and social justice.”
The CEI rates companies on 40 specific policies and practices. To earn a perfect score, companies must have fully inclusive equal employment opportunity policies; provide equal employment benefits; demonstrate organizational LGBT competency; substantiate their commitment to equality publicly; and exercise responsible citizenship. WilmerHale earned its perfect score by obtaining top marks in each of these areas.
