Associate Edward E. Hale Named Public Interest Leader for 2005-2006 by the Boston Bar Association

Boston Bar Association President, Edward P. Leibensperger today announced that WilmerHale associate, Edward E. Hale, is one of eight select lawyers who have been chosen to spend the next 12 months in the Public Interest Leadership Program. Dubbed “Public Interest Leaders,” the lawyers—all of whom have been practicing for less than a decade—have demonstrated a powerful commitment to public service and a keen interest in using the organized bar as a launching pad for building a compelling pro bono culture among their peers.
“The lawyers accepted into the BBA Public Interest Leadership Program have a unique opportunity to develop the type of professional relationships that will generate leadership opportunities throughout their careers,” said Leibensperger. “Every city needs civic leaders to build a strong sense of community, and this program helps us identify and nurture the lawyer leaders of tomorrow.”
The Public Interest Leadership Program, established in 2003, is intended to reinforce the professional commitment of lawyers to civic and charitable endeavors. The lawyers, who spend a minimum of 25 hours a month on public service and leadership development activities, were nominated by their employers, which include prestigious law firms, legal services agencies, and the Office of the Attorney General.
The 2005-2006 Public Interest Leaders will themselves organize seminars that provide opportunities to meet with prominent community leaders, develop insight into the challenges confronting community organizations and an appreciation for the elements of successful community leadership. They will also learn about service on boards as well as philanthropy. This year’s group will also be able to draw upon the experiences of a growing alumni network of Public Interest Leaders from previous years.
