WilmerHale is pleased to announce that Jeffrey L. Wieand Jr., a longtime aide to incoming House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, has joined the firm’s Public Policy and Legislative Affairs team as a Public Policy Advisor.

Prior to joining WilmerHale, Wieand served as counsel for then House Republican Whip Steve Scalise of Louisiana. During more than five and a half years in that role, he advised Scalise as his primary aide covering legislation and matters before the House committees on the Judiciary, Financial Services, Energy and Commerce, and Education and Workforce. As counsel, he supported the House Whip’s vote counting efforts by coordinating legislative strategy at the member and staff level with Republican leadership in the House and Senate, committees, and Republican member offices. Wieand started his congressional career on the staff for the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee before later serving as a fellow for the Senate Judiciary Committee and legislative director and counsel for Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick (R-PA) and Rep. Tom Marino (R-PA).

Wieand is the latest addition to WilmerHale’s expanding public policy team. Erin Kuhls who served as a senior Republican Senate aide until September 2022 joined the team late last year as did Mary Freiner who most recently worked for the Hispanic Federation.

“We welcome Jeff who adds to our ability to effectively advocate for our clients on both sides of the aisle, especially in light of the shift in House control,” said Rob Lehman and Jonathan Yarowsky, co-chairs of WilmerHale’s public policy practice, in a joint statement.
