From NAFTA to USMCA: Changes to the Rules of Origin in Chapter 4 and Potential Impact on the Auto Industry
- 3.31.2020
Naboth van den Broek, Sarah Sprinkle and Stephanie Forrest have co-authored an article in the recently published TDM Special Issue on the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). The paper discusses changes to the rules of origin requirements for automotive and automotive parts included in the recently negotiated USMCA. These changes reflect the shifting trade policies of the Trump Administration, and a closer examination of these provisions is warranted due to the significant impact the amended approach to origin rules will have on the automotive industry and the wider implications they will have for the North American economy.
