The Second Edition of Global Arbitration Review's The Guide to Damages in International Arbitration Has Been Published

We are delighted to announce the publication of The Guide to Damages in International Arbitration (Second Edition, Global Arbitration Review, 2018).

The book is edited by John A. Trenor, partner in the International Arbitration Practice at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP in Washington D.C. Mr. Trenor organized and structured the contents of the book, wrote the Introduction, and contributed a chapter on “Strategic Issues in Employing and Deploying Damages Experts.”

The book also includes a chapter on “Damages in Intellectual Property Arbitrations,” by Trevor Cook, partner in the Intellectual Property Litigation Practice at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr.

The objective of The Guide to Damages in International Arbitration is to help all participants in the international arbitration community—from the arbitrators to the parties to counsel and experts—understand damages issues more clearly and communicate those issues more effectively to tribunals to further the common objective of assisting arbitrators in rendering more accurate and well-reasoned awards on damages.

The chapters address key issues regarding various aspects of damages, identify areas of general agreement and disagreement, provide checklists and tips, and describe effective approaches to presenting and resolving damages issues. With a firm understanding of the underlying issues and the reason why the parties disagree, the arbitrators can make informed judgments on how to resolve those differences.

The second edition is more than 450 pages and contains more than 30 chapters. It updates various chapters in light of new developments and adds several chapters addressing such issues as the function and role of damages experts, the applicable valuation approach, country risk premium, and damages in gas and electricity arbitrations.
