Gary Born Receives Outstanding Contribution to the Legal Profession Chambers Award

Gary Born, chair of Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr's International Arbitration Group, will receive the 2018 “Outstanding Contribution to the Legal Profession Award” at a Chambers awards ceremony on April 20 in Madrid. The award recognizes lawyers who have had a significant impact on their market and areas of practice. The Chambers awards ceremony will honor the work of lawyers and law firms across Europe, based on the research for the 2018 edition of Chambers Europe.
In its award citation, Chambers describes Born as the world's foremost authority on international arbitration and litigation, being “in a class of his own.” Chambers also describes Born as “absolutely fantastic,” “spectacular,” and a “superstar” who is “revered around the world for his work on international commercial and investor arbitration,” with peers singling him out as “the top guy in the field.”
Born has represented parties in more than 650 International arbitrations, including several of the largest international commercial arbitrations and state-to-state arbitrations in history. He was the recipient of the Global Arbitration Review's “Advocate of the Year” award in Seoul, South Korea and numerous other accolades. Born is the author of International Commercial Arbitration (2d ed. 2014 Kluwer International), the leading commentary in the field. He is also the author of International Arbitration: Law and Practice (2d ed. 2016), International Civil Litigation in U.S. Courts (6th ed. 2018) and numerous other works in the field.
