Georgetown University Alumni Association Honors Judge Gajarsa

Judge Arthur Gajarsa, senior counsel in WilmerHale's Intellectual Property Litigation Practice, has received the John Carroll Award from the Georgetown University Alumni Association. This award—the highest honor given to alumni by the group—was presented on April 16 in Rome, Italy.

Gajarsa received his JD from Georgetown University Law Center in 1967. He has since played an active role in the life of the university, serving on its board of directors and on the board of visitors of the Law Center, where he also taught a Constitutional Law course. He received an honorary doctorate from the Law Center in 2012.

“I built the foundation of my career at Georgetown, and have continued to gain so much through my relationship with the school,” says Gajarsa. “It is an honor to join the distinguished group of alumni who have received the John Carroll Award.”

The award is named for the school's founder, Archbishop John Carroll, and recognizes recipients “for their service to Georgetown and their communities, their lifetime achievements and their dedication to advancing Georgetown's mission of distinguished service and leadership,” according to the university's website.

Gajarsa joined WilmerHale in 2012 after serving as a Federal Circuit judge for 15 years, a position to which he was appointed by President Clinton. Before that, he practiced as a litigator in corporate law, intellectual property, securities law and other areas, and made several appearances before the US Supreme Court to represent Native American tribal interests. He has also held positions in the Department of Commerce, Department of the Interior and Department of Defense.
