Gary Born

The New Zealand Centre of International Economic Law and the Arbitrators' and Mediators' Institute of New Zealand are delighted to facilitate a discussion with Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP Partner Gary Born. Mr. Born is widely regarded as the world’s preeminent authority on international commercial arbitration and international litigation. While in New Zealand, he will discuss his recent initiative: a Bilateral Arbitration Treaty Regime. This is aimed at addressing the difficulties businesses face when a dispute arises because of the structure of cross-border litigation which is often time-consuming, expensive and inefficient. Mr. Born's proposed Bilateral Arbitration Treaty Regime would replace cross-border litigation as the default dispute resolution process and use neutral principles of international arbitration to create a pragmatic framework for resolving international commercial disputes.
