In the United States, wildlife law is an evolutionary work in progress. This presentation provides a high-level overview of the political, legislative and judicial trends that have shaped the formation of the US federal wildlife and related environmental laws from the early 19th century to the present. The development of federal wildlife law in some instances has been based on a growing public concern for wildlife and appropriate use of wildlife resources, and in other instances has simply responded, along with other environmental laws, to changing political forces. The presentation will cover emerging issues with a focus on impacts to natural resource and energy clients.
