Zviad Guruli is Director, eDiscovery and Data Analytics for WilmerHale DiscoverySolutions and a member of the Securities Litigation and Enforcement Practice. He joined the firm in 2004.

Practice

Mr. Guruli is responsible for coordinating and developing the WHDS teams'—DA&I Attorney, Discovery Attorney, Litigation Support, and Technology—subject matter expertise to provide consultation and strategy in complex discovery matters.  He advises the law firm community and clients on eDiscovery best practices, emerging technologies and trends. Mr. Guruli designs and implements workflows using advanced predictive and AI methodologies, statistical modeling and other advanced discovery tools. He has direct experience with all phases of eDiscovery for securities enforcement, regulatory, cyber breach response, litigation and compliance matters, and issues arising under the attorney-client privilege and work product doctrines. Mr. Guruli also consults on protected data categories, including data privacy issues arising in cross-border discovery. Focusing on efficiency and risk mitigation, he coordinates the establishment of eDiscovery processes with in-house IT departments, Litigation Support and external service providers. 

Mr. Guruli is a certified Six Sigma Green Belt and Legal Project Manager, and holds CORe credentials from Harvard Business School Online. Mr. Guruli was instrumental in the implementation process of WilmerHale DiscoverySolutions and other eDiscovery technologies. He actively develops internal course materials and conducts training sessions. Mr. Guruli routinely contributes to leading industry conferences addressing eDiscovery law and policy issues.

Mr. Guruli routinely contributes to leading industry conferences addressing eDiscovery law and policy issues, including serving on the Faculties of Electronic Discovery Institute Leadership Summit, Electronic Discovery Institute Distance Learning Initiative, Judicial Training Symposium (a joint educational initiative of the Electronic Discovery Institute and the Federal Judicial Center), and the University of Florida Levin College of Law E-Discovery Conference.

Professional Activities

Mr. Guruli is a member of the American Bar Association and the Louisiana Bar Association.

Experience

Mr. Guruli has a diverse background that includes legal and non-legal experience. He has spent time as head of international operations for an American brokering company negotiating contracts for commodities and serving as the liaison between the brokering company and government officials in the Republic of Georgia and the Russian Federation. Mr. Guruli also worked for the former President of Georgia as assistant to the Chairman of the President's Foundation where he advised foreign individuals and companies on issues related to corporate and public law. Additionally, Mr. Guruli has worked on various international trade regulatory and customs matters, including trade remedy investigations brought in developing countries and issues arising under the WTO rules. He served as a fellow at the Institute of International Economic Law, and received a certificate in WTO studies.

Mr. Guruli's non-legal experience includes working for the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia where he assisted in negotiations with foreign officials, and coordinating business aspects of humanitarian medical initiatives in Georgia for an international medical association.
