Dr. Katrin Meschede is a counsel in the firm’s Antitrust and Competition Practice. She advises and represents national and international companies in private antitrust litigation, complex cross-border merger proceedings and cartel investigations of the German Federal Cartel Office, the European Commission and the US Department of Justice.

Dr. Meschede is a member of the Studienvereinigung Kartellrecht (Antitrust Law Society Germany).

Experience

  • Defending a German banking association before the Berlin District Court and the Berlin Court of Appeals against a series of lawsuits brought by German retailers claiming damages from allegedly excessive merchant fees for the use of the German debit card system Electronic Cash / Girocard.
  • Representing German sweets manufacturer Katjes Fassin and other sweets manufacturers in litigation before the Mannheim District Court and the Karlsruhe Court of Appeals concerning significant claims for damages from the “Sugar Cartel”.
  • Representing Deutsche Bahn in litigation before the Frankfurt District Court and the Frankfurt Court of Appeals concerning claims for several hundred million Euros in damages from the “Railtrack Cartel”.
  • Assisting a major German automotive supplier in cartel investigations of the European Commission and the US Department of Justice.
  • Assisting a global security company in a cartel investigation of the European Commission. 
  • Representing Heidemark, a German turkey producer, in appeal proceedings before the Dusseldorf Court of Appeals against a fine imposed by the Federal Cartel Office for an alleged participation in the German “Sausages Cartel”.
  • Representing the former CEO of a Danish beer producer in appeal proceedings before the Dusseldorf Court of Appeals against a fine imposed by the Federal Cartel Office for an alleged participation in the German “Beer Cartel”.
  • Advising and representing a US oilfield service provider in securing merger control clearance from the European Commission and several competition authorities worldwide for the establishment of a joint venture.
  • Advising and representing a global science and technology company in securing merger control clearance from the Federal Trade Commission and European competition authorities for its acquisition of a biologicals manufacturer.
