Hilary Hurd provides counsel on a broad range of defense and national security matters including those pertaining to artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, privacy and defense as well as related government investigations.

Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Hurd served as Deputy Legal Advisor on the National Security Council (NSC) where she advised clients on a range of complex and high-stakes regulatory and litigation issues pertaining to artificial intelligence, foreign surveillance, trade and foreign investment in the United States. Ms. Hurd also served as Counsel to the Deputy Attorney General for national security helping to coordinate national security policy throughout the Department of Justice. She received the Attorney General’s Award for Distinguished Service for her work to advance the reauthorization of Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. She previously served as Senior Advisor to the President’s Homeland Security Advisor where she supported briefings and strategic response efforts for the President across a range of no-notice homeland security incidents.

Ms. Hurd began her legal career as a member of the Biden-Harris Transition Team serving as a vetting attorney. Prior to law school, Ms. Hurd served as a global advocacy manager at Transparency International, a global anticorruption organization. She was a 2013 Marshall Scholar and a 2009 Jefferson Scholar.
