Just two weeks after the firm was recognized as one of the Best Law Firms for Women by the National Association for Female Executives and Flex-Time Lawyers, two WilmerHale partners have been honored as Top Women of Law for 2011 by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly. Karen F. Green, a partner and former co-chair of the Litigation/Controversy Department, and Susan W. Murley, chair of the Transactional Department, were two of the 36 women recognized for their innumerable outstanding accomplishments.
Green, who is celebrating her 30th year as an attorney, has been named one of “The Best Lawyers in America” since 2008 and was included in “The International Who's Who of Business Lawyers” in 2009 and 2011, among other honors.
Murley, who in January will become the first woman in WilmerHale history to assume the role of co-managing partner, has been a trailblazer for female attorneys at WilmerHale for the past 25 years. This year, the firm ranked second in MultiCultural Law magazine's “Top 100 Law Firms for Women” and was recognized by the Project for Attorney Retention for outranking its competitors in the number of women attorneys promoted to partner.
Top Women of Law, which has been published annually since 2008, honors female attorneys who have distinguished themselves and helped pave the way for women in the field. Susan A. Bocamazo, Esq. of Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly notes, “Some have excelled in traditionally male fields. Some have devoted hours to mentoring other women attorneys, while others have dedicated their careers to working with underrepresented populations, including illegal immigrants, the economically disadvantaged and victims of sexual assault. Many of the honorees have put their legal skills to work to better their communities, and some have done all of the above, while still striving to maintain that elusive work-life balance.”
Green and Murley were honored at a ceremony on September 23 hosted by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly.
