Georgetown University Law Center and WilmerHale Co-Host Intellectual Property Conference
The conference consisted of three panels including “The Smartphone Wars,” which focused on design patents, but more specifically on the recent Apple and Samsung design patents that have been the subject of recent litigation. Georgetown University Law Center Professor John Thomas and American University Washington College of Law Professor and WilmerHale alumnus, Jorge Contreras, served among the panelists. WilmerHale Partner and former US Solicitor General, Seth Waxman, participated on a panel entitled, “Intellectual Property and the Supreme Court,” where he provided valuable insight on recent developments in intellectual property law at the US Supreme Court. Suzanne Michel, senior patent counsel at Google, Inc., served on the panel as moderator. Lastly, there was a panel, entitled, “Trade Secrets and the BPCIA,” featuring WilmerHale Partner Jonathan Cedarbaum as the moderator alongside notable Richard Epstein, Laurence A. Tisch professor of law at New York University School of Law.
WilmerHale Senior Counsel Arthur Gajarsa provided the keynote. Judge Gajarsa shared remarks on the evolving intellectual property landscape as well as reflections of his time during judiciary service in the Federal Circuit for fifteen years. Judge Gajarsa joined WilmerHale following his retirement from the Federal Circuit in 2012.
