WilmerHale Recognized as an Appellate Practice Group of the Year by Law360

Recognition

Law360 honored WilmerHale in the ‘Appellate’ category in its 2023 Practice Groups of the Year awards, which honor the attorney teams behind litigation wins and major deals that resonated throughout the legal industry this past year. Law360 selected 186 winning groups across 39 practice areas. In the awards' 13th year, the Practice Groups of the Year hail from 88 law firms and rose to the top of nearly 900 submissions.

As noted in the firm’s profile, WilmerHale spent the year bringing home major appellate wins for some of the tech world’s largest players. One of the most substantial being a win for Twitter. The firm helped to win a unanimous decision for the social media company, which was being sued for allegedly abetting a terror attack on an Istanbul nightclub.

"The Twitter Section 230 case, I don't know that it's an exaggeration to say that it threatened the future of the internet as we understand it," said Partner Mark Fleming, co-chair of the firm's Appellate and Supreme Court Litigation practice. “And the ability to win that in the way that it was won, I think is a significant victory that doesn't happen every year."

Among several other notable wins for Apple, Cisco, Intel, Tesla and more, the firm took on significant voting rights work in 2023. "There's obviously been a great deal of litigation involving the ability to vote, the right to vote, election integrity," said Fleming. "We've been heavily involved in that, and that's going to be, I think, a big theme in 2024, for obvious reasons."
