Law360 has recognized WilmerHale as a leader among competitor firms with its 2022 Technology Practice Group of the Year award, making it the fourth year the firm has received this distinguished honor. The practice group is said to demonstrate a deep understanding of the regulatory and business issues driving the technology industry, including specialty areas such corporate law, intellectual property litigation, licensing, securities and taxation providing the most benefit to clients.
In a March 2023 article featuring the firm, Law360 discusses several of WilmerHale’s cross-practice area victories over the last year. A legal team led by Boston-based Partners Mark Fleming and Bill Lee, Washington DC-based Partner Thomas Saunders and Palo Alto-based Partner Thomas Sprankling obtained a major victory for Cisco Systems, Inc. when the Federal Circuit vacated a judgment exceeding $2.75B, reportedly the largest patent infringement judgment in history.
Additionally, a team of WilmerHale lawyers, led by New York-based Partner David Gringer and Washington DC-based Partner Jonathan Paikin, earned two victories for software provider Intuit Inc. when they successfully defeated antitrust claims over the company's marketing of its TurboTax as a free tax-filing service.
Gringer and Partner Sonal Mehta, who is based in Palo Alto, also secured a win when the Ninth Circuit upheld a lower court's dismissal of antitrust claims against Meta Platforms over its acquisitions of WhatsApp and Instagram.
WilmerHale attorneys also handled a large number of transactions for technology companies throughout the year, including the $2.8 billion go private transaction for education publishing and technology company, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.
The wide breadth of our services also allows our attorneys to work together on other complex transactional work with innovative technology companies and high-stakes congressional inquiries.
