Attorney News

WilmerHale is pleased to announce the expansion of its M&A and private equity practices with the hiring of Michael E. Gilligan. Mr. Gilligan is an accomplished, well-known lawyer in the New York corporate and M&A bars.

Mr. Gilligan represents private equity funds and US and multinational company clients in complex transactions across a wide range of industries, including domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions, dispositions, private placements and restructurings. He has broad and deep experience on buy-side and sell-side M&A, involving both public and private company targets. Mr. Gilligan is also experienced in joint ventures, proxy contests, venture and growth-stage investments, as well as general corporate governance matters.

“Core to the firm’s strategic plan, there is a fervent focus in growing our transactional practices. Mike’s addition to the team is an impactful step to expanding our private equity practice, while also adding significant momentum to our M&A expansion efforts nationally and in New York,” said Susan Murley, a corporate lawyer and co-managing partner of WilmerHale.

“I’m extremely excited to be joining WilmerHale. Over my career, I’ve had the opportunity to work across the table from WilmerHale lawyers and I’ve consistently been impressed with their expertise and collegiality. It’s a place where I can continue to build my practice and contribute to the firm’s core strengths, while drawing on the exceptional talents and varied experience of my new colleagues,” said Mr. Gilligan.

Mr. Gilligan will join other recent notable additions to WilmerHale’s corporate practice—capital markets Partner Glenn Pollner, M&A and corporate Partner Tal Hacohen in New York, and life sciences and licensing Partner Sarah Hogan in Boston.

Mr. Gilligan received his BS in biomedical engineering from Johns Hopkins University in 1992 and his JD from Fordham University in 1997. He has spent his career in New York City, at large international law firms.
