WilmerHale is pleased to announce the return to the firm of Boyd Johnson as a partner and key member of the firm’s market-leading white-collar investigations and litigation practices.
Mr. Johnson, who before his very successful previous tenure at WilmerHale was the Deputy United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, will rejoin the firm after serving as general counsel for Soros Fund Management (SFM), a leading private investment company.
With his extraordinary background as a former top federal prosecutor, a skilled private practitioner, and a general counsel, Mr. Johnson’s role at the firm will extend beyond white-collar and litigation matters and into WilmerHale’s financial institutions and transactional practices.
At SFM, which he joined in 2018 after seven years at WilmerHale, Mr. Johnson oversaw legal, compliance, and regulatory functions in New York, London, and Hong Kong. As general counsel, he supervised the negotiation and structuring of capital markets transactions, mergers and acquisitions, and investments across public and private equity and credit strategies. A member of SFM's leadership team, Mr. Johnson served as a director of investment funds and portfolio companies and on SFM's valuation, liquidity and risk, and cybersecurity committees.
“We couldn’t be more thrilled to have Boyd back within the fold,” said Robert Novick, WilmerHale’s co-managing partner. “His recent general counsel experience, on top of everything else he’s done so well, will be of tremendous value to our clients and firm.”
“It’s great to be rejoining WilmerHale where I have so many friends who also just happen to be some of the best lawyers anywhere,” said Mr. Johnson who will be based in WilmerHale's New York office beginning in January 2021. “We all share the same inspiration – to find the smartest solution to every client’s toughest challenge.”
