For more than a decade, WilmerHale has participated in the Legal Aid Society's Generous Associates Campaign, a fundraiser led by associates based in Washington DC and meant to help bring justice to low-income individuals. Together this year, the participating 71 law firms raised $1.37 million, hitting an all-time record high. Among the largest donors, WilmerHale contributed $136,295.
"This campaign raised approximately one quarter of Legal Aid's budget, so it is no exaggeration to say survivors of domestic violence will get to safety, families will remain safe in their homes, and elderly DC residents will receive the health care they need and to which they are entitled under the law because of what was accomplished by DC's generous lawyers this summer," said Legal Aid Society Executive Director Eric Angel.
"Every year, we are grateful for the numerous donations by firm attorneys and staff to support this campaign and important cause," said WilmerHale Co-Managing Partner Robert Novick. "The energy around this effort is contagious and we are so appreciative of the commitment our campaign co-chairs make to ensure that Legal Aid is always a winner."
Over an eight-week effort, WilmerHale Associates and campaign Co-Chairs Molly Jennings, Ariel Hopkins, Jared English, Keith Howell, Yeve Chitiga and Rob Arcamona made a successful effort in driving other attorneys and staff to donate. One hundred percent of the firm's DC summer associates donated, and a significant amount of associates, senior associates, partners, counsel and staff also played a key role.
"The response that we got from individuals at every level of the firm this year was just incredible," said Arcamona. "Some people donated two or three times to meet Legal Aid's fundraising goal. Their money will ensure that low-income DC residents have the legal resources they need."
"We are thrilled with the result of this year's campaign for Legal Aid," said Hopkins. "The entire office really gets into the spirit of the campaign, and we are always amazed by the enthusiasm and generosity of all of the DC firms. We are honored to be a part of the Generous Associates Campaign and to help support the important work that Legal Aid does."
