WilmerHale Senior International Counsel Robert Kimmitt, former US ambassor to Germany and current chairman of the American Counsel on Germany, will be a panelist at this event hosted by the German Marshall Fund of the United States. The discussion will cover the life and legacy of Hans-Dietrich Genscher who served as the West German foreign minister and vice chancellor from 1974 until unification in 1990, and then continued in the role of foreign minster of a unified Germany until 1992. He was an architect of European unity and especially German unity. He recognized early on that Soviet Leader Mikhail Gorbachev desired change—and both men helped pave the way for German unification.
