Speakers: John Walsh and Brendan McGuire
Walsh: Hi everyone. I’m John Walsh and along with Brendan McGuire we’re excited to announce “In the Public Interest,” a new podcast from our law firm, WilmerHale. I’m a partner in our Denver office and for six years I served as Colorado’s United States Attorney.
McGuire: And I’m Brendan McGuire, partner in our New York office and a former assistant U.S. Attorney in Seventh District of New York. From Covid-19, to policing and racial justice, to climate change and beyond, 2020 has been a year of crises and helping clients navigate complex and unprecedented crises is what our firm does best. This podcast will highlight some of that work and examine the legal policy challenges that have captured the public interest.
Walsh: We’ll be joined by a range of guests including people in the news, prominent clients, friends of the firm, and our firm colleagues who have a from row seat to the events making headlines today. For our first episode, we’ll dive right in with a public figure who is on the front lines like few others. We are thrilled to welcome Lori Lightfoot, the 56th mayor of Chicago as the first guest of “In the Public Interest.” Mayor Lightfoot will be joined in conversation by our partner, Debo Adegbile, who is not only co-chair of the firm’s anti-discrimination practice but also a commissioner on the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, and the former acting president of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. Debo and a team from WilmerHale recently assisted Mayor Lightfoot and the U.S. Conference of Mayors putting together a detailed blueprint for improving policing and promoting equal justice in America’s cities.
McGuire: In future episodes, we’ll welcome others with unique perspectives on the most challenging issues of the day. As we hope you’ll agree, “In the Public Interest” will certainly be interesting. Subscribe/listen to “In the Public Interest” beginning next week wherever you get your podcasts.
