Part 1: Increased Scrutiny of Foreign Direct Investment in Europe—Introducing the next layer of regulatory transactional review
Join WilmerHale Partner Anne Vallery (Brussels), Special Counsel Oliver Fleischmann (Berlin) and Partner Cormac O’Daly (London) on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 from 11–11:30 a.m. ET (5–5:30 p.m. CET) as they discuss the main features of the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) control regimes in the EU and the UK and their implications for transaction security and planning.
Strategic investments by state-sponsored companies, in particular from China, and calls for greater European strategic independence fueled by the pandemic have resulted in increased scrutiny of foreign investments in the EU, including those coming from the US. Consequently, regulatory reviews of transactions are no longer limited to traditional merger control, but parties are regularly also required to apply for a foreign direct investment (FDI) clearance.
This is the first webinar in our series Navigating Antitrust and Regulatory Issues in M&A Transactions: A European Perspective. Each webinar lasts 30 minutes and features WilmerHale’s European lawyers discussing how to manage the uncertainties around antitrust and other regulatory issues in M&A deals.
Participants will have the opportunity to contribute questions online.
