Our firm recognized the growing political and economic significance of Berlin as the government seat of unified German early on, opening its offices in the capital in 1993 as one of the first US law firms. In 2002, the company merged with the renowned and longstanding Berlin firm, Quack Rechtsanwälte, in existence since 1954. In 2008, the firm expanded its German Practice with the opening of a new office in Frankfurt. We now have more than 60 resident attorneys and notaries in the two offices.

Our range of services spans the entire spectrum of corporate and business law and complements the crucial role Berlin plays as a hub of politics and business. Our location is a symbol of the tradition our firm has of providing advice where law, business and policy come together.

Our practices include:

  • Corporate Law (including corporate finance, M&A, private equity and venture capital)
  • Bank and Capital Market Law
  • Tax
  • Labor and Employment

We focus on the aviation/tourism, energy and telecommunications industries. In addition, we represent both domestic and foreign companies in the fields of technology and media, transport and logistics, as well as banks and financial services providers.

Brussels/EU Practice

We opened our office in Brussels in 1990, just as the European Community introduced its Merger Control Regulation and in anticipation of the impact of the single market. The expansion of our firm was an important strategic decision, and one taken at just the right time. Concentrating on complex, challenging issues at the intersection of business, law and policy, the office has gained widespread recognition as one of the premier law offices in Brussels.

The office’s practice focuses are:

  • International Trade, Investment and Market Access
  • Antitrust and Competition, Merger Control
  • Public Commercial Law
  • Legal Strategy and Public Policy
  • Corporate Law
  • Aviation
  • Telecommunications, Media and E-Commerce
  • International Arbitration

Our highly experienced team of lawyers is qualified in many of the major European and North American jurisdictions, including Germany, Belgium, France, Austria, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada. Professor Claus-Dieter Ehlermann, resident in the Brussels office, perhaps best personifies these qualities. As former chairman of the Appellate Body of the World Trade Organization and Director-General of DG Competition of the European Commission, he is one of the leading experts in the field of EU, competition and trade law. This unparalleled experience with all key EU institutions, EU decision-making committees and bodies is one of the factors behind the international repute of our team.
